What happens in your body when you don’t drink enough water

Present in every cell of our body, water plays an essential role in digestion, circulation, regulation of body temperature, proper functioning of organs… Without it, the general balance is disrupted.

And yet, many people only drink when they’re thirsty. But be careful: thirst is already a sign of mild dehydration. The secret is to anticipate. And to do that, you need to know how to recognize the sometimes subtle signals our body sends us when it’s dehydrated.

The early signs of dehydration that the body manifests

Dark urine, a sign that your kidneys are warning you

The first easy indicator to spot is the color of your urine. If it’s clear, everything is fine. But if it turns dark yellow or even brown, it means your body is concentrating waste products due to dehydration. Your kidneys are working harder, and this can cause problems in the long run.

Infrequent trips to the bathroom:
Do you go long periods without going to the bathroom? This is a sign that you’re not drinking enough. Normally, our bodies regularly eliminate the water they absorb. If this isn’t happening, they try to retain it as much as possible… which can disrupt the elimination of toxins.

Fatigue and lack of energy:
Do you feel exhausted as soon as you wake up? Before assuming you’re iron deficient or overworked, simply check… if you’re drinking enough. Dehydration slows down certain brain functions and makes the body less responsive. The result: a less clear mind and persistent fatigue.
